Contact Info African Americans continue to contribute their talents, skills, and abilities to make the world a better place in every aspect of society. In this section you will read over 60 profiles of African Americans who have profoundly affected and changed American life. By becoming familiar with these profiles, you put yourself in a wonderful position to teach children and others around important black history facts. Take potato chips for instance. Nearly every grocery list has a bag of potato chips on it. Did you know the potato chip was invented in 1853 by George Crum, an African American chef at the Moon Lake Lodge resort in Saratoga Springs, New York? You can teach your children this quick black history fact while enjoying a chips and sandwich lunch with your children. Another example is the fact the traffic light was invented by African American inventor Garrett Augustus Morgan in 1923. The next time you stop at a traffic light during a family outing, ask your children who they think invented the traffic light. Your answer could lead to a good “on the road” conversation about other black history facts. "How To Make Black History Month Last All Year" contains over 50 profiles of African Americans that changed the world. As you read the profiles in, notice that African Americans have been effective in all areas of life—not just sports and entertainment. Keep in mind that everything you touch, see, or smell has an African American fingerprint on it in some form or fashion. |
